“Teacher appreciation makes the world of education go around.” - Helen Peters

You can say things in a million ways, but expressing gratitude nearly always comes in a drab, “Thank you.” Your English teacher would snooze at such a boring expression of gratitude - where is the thought and creativity? But when it comes to words, you’re options are limited in showing people how much they have meant to you.

When faced with an educator who has inspired, assisted and perhaps even mentored, it is essential to convey admiration and thankfulness. How best to do this, though, when words fall short? Indicating thoughtfulness and care, a gift basket may be the ideal token.

It is generally said that teaching is a thankless job. Students never bother these days and they just seem to take everything for granted. They are more there out of compulsion than a choice. But you could make that difference. You could make your teacher feel appreciated which will help do love what they do. And that could make all the difference.

First thing should be for you to understand what your teacher likes. It could try to find that out by interacting with the teacher or based in on your personal understanding. If you are confused about and not sure of it, then a fruit gift basket could be the best option. Everyone seems to love them. After all it is these teachers who taught you that ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away.’

You can choose from a variety of fresh or dried fruits, or a complementary treat for that morning cup of coffee. Sweet little treats will really show your teacher that you care. Get a basket to start your gift package and just fill it up with things that you know your teacher would like.

If your gift coincides with the Christmas season an ideal substitute for, or addition to, fruit is chocolate. Whether individually wrapped or presented in a box or other container, chocolates are a rich expression of gratefulness. Arranged with white candles, which appropriately symbolize heaven-sent blessings, a sweets basket also can include fruits or nuts dipped in chocolate. Likewise, the inclusion of handmade chocolates lends an especially lavish touch to a holiday basket. Sometimes a baked goods basket is appropriate. This could comprise cookies and biscuits, cakes and pastries, cupcakes and mini loaves of breads. Complementing this assortment could be, again, some fine handmade chocolates packaged and displayed creatively. Any of these gifts is certain to delight and indulge your teacher.

On general occasions, consider a food gift basket. Generally a cookie basket would be good with assorted cookies and cup cakes. They are healthy and everyone seems to relish it. Hand made chocolates could also be added to make the basket look impressive. Little would you know of how could this delight someone?

You can use any type of basket: open weave, with a handle, or something recycled. Remember to stay green, use an environmentally friendly material. Your teacher may want to keep the basket if you give an effective gift. Customize the basket with an inscription, perhaps your name or a good quote.

Other pleasing additions to a gift basket include books, CD’s or DVD’s. There are many appropriate films that express the principles and benefits of superior teaching. The British classic, To Sir with Love, is an obvious choice as is Educating Rita or Mr. Holland’s Opus. All of these movies perfectly illustrate the power of education to enhance, enrich and endure.

After all teacher appreciation makes the world go around.
